That was my point. "What works"
Toothpick for a horse might be big enough.
Lets see... super glue, use once and throw away, but next time its hard to the bottom of the tube.
Commercial thingy... Metal, do I want that coming loose in my power distribution system.
Zip tie... Been there done...
T is the tone to use if the repeater needs one to open the repeater's receiver. CT is used to open your receiver in the case where a distance repeater interferes with the local one you are using. The assumption is the distant repeater is not transmitting CT or the CT is different than the local...
One thing to check is to find out if the thru-hole lead is really separated from the thru-hole barrel of the PCB. Grab the tip of the lead and wiggle it in a circle, but stay within the hole diameter. If it is free from the barrel it will move easily. If not it is still attached down the hole...
Can't say one way or the other, but it is easy to check on the radio using the MENU key or the utility program when connected to the radio. Good option after radio is up and running is save the configuration with the utility program and you can check your software load too.
Current...
Yes, the combination is pricey. I only got the side plates. Put the money saved into a Pelican #1400 case. Got a little behind on that switch. Plates did allow me to place a hole to attach a dust cap for the BNC connector.
FYI - Last I knew GEM is a one man operation and it is secondary to...
Not that I have heard. UHF does not have the same appeal as the VHF option which I believe addresses CW and SSB at the bottom of 2M. Not saying it will not work FM repeaters, but I have not seen the same interest in UHF which could be a lack of knowledge on my part.

It's also the point when the repeaters 'transmit time out' timer is reset if the repeater has one. If two parties are long-winded its a good idea to 'ring the bell' and reset the timer before the repeater enters a time-out on transmit. If it times out it will come back, but you will have to wait...
Seemed like such a 'slam-dunk' to press and hold home, but to get dual-watch. I have to admit I depend on the programing software more than I should for my little collection of radios.

Display frequency you want to be "HOME". Press and 'hold' HOME button.
If that works I am a genius, if not... "move along, nothing here to see..."

I was talking with one of my ham buddies this morning about the Yaesu FT-1DR. It was his understanding that the radio will use the same digital 'chip' that a mototurbo radio uses. That if mototurbo goes open-source it might be possible to reprogram the micro-code. Which opens many...
That's one of the negative points of Yaesu's digital radio (12.5 kHz C4FM FDMA). I don't know the merits of what they have purposed, but nothing I have heard indicates DSTAR compatibility.

Only the 51 will get you into the D-STAR infrastructure. Its important that a D-STAR stack (repeater) is operational in your area too. Maybe a DV Dongle would be better to check things out. Gets you into D-STAR with only your desktop/laptop computer and internet access. New about $200 and used...
VA comment
It is an interesting article. One point to make about the D710, the follow-up to the 700. In the situation where APRS frequency is selected, VA is on and BEACON is on it works well. If you move to another frequency on the "A" side and turn BEACON off so as not to transmit packets on...
The VX8 is thinner and weights less than the 92 and was the biggest reason it was my primary HT. The VX8 speaker mic is also lighter and smaller than the one for the 92. Only used the 2m and 70cm bands on either radio. Its nice to have the bands available but the truth be told I could have used...
