    boafang uv-5r

My new Baofeng UV5RA that I won on an eBay auction (under $35) arrived a couple weeks ago, and I've been real pleased with it so far. It took a little getting used to programing it manually, but I have all the FRS, GMRS, MURS, Marine, local 2m/70cm repeaters and some simplex and even some local...

    Baofeng Speaker/Microphone for UV-5R?

I recorded myself monitoring a spare radio using the Baofeng UV5RA internal microphone and then plugged in the earpiece/mic that came with my radio and talked/recorded that. The little PTT mic/earpiece sounded much better than internal microphone; it was louder and clearer.

What is your favorite recue story?

About 10 years ago my wife, who was home alone at the time, had walked to the back of our yard at the edge of the woods and unlocked my barn to go inside and get something. As she went in, she somehow closed the door behind her hard enough that the latch's steel hasp swung around and slipped...

    Base or Mobile or both?

Both. Back in the 70s I started out with my first cheap mobile. Ever since then every vehicle I owned and drove had a mobile unit in it and still does. In the early 90s my wife and I each had a mobile CB in our vehicles and two base stations at home (both mobiles using a 12vt. Power...

Realistic ssb radio what is the best one made?

I've still got my TR-465 hooked up as a base station in my barn to an old Realistic Cross Bow antenna. I've never had any problems out of it.

What makes a good logger program?

I just use a homemade spread sheet in Excel. It doesn't do much automatically, but I can expand the fields and sort as I like.

Anyone still use a Antron-99 for 17-10 meters?

I still have my 99 mounted above the chimney on a Radio Shake pole & chimney mount that is connected to my old CB in the kitchen mounted under the overhead cabinet that used to be our family mobile phone service before cell phones became popular. (showing my age now) That was also before I got...

    Base station external speakers

I use a very old wooden enclosure stereo speaker. It does not have a brand name, but works fine for my Yaesu FT847 and I use the other speaker for my SSB CB.

What have you purchased lately ?

Last ham radio devices I aquired were a SignaLink SL-1+ to help get into the new PSK31 mode using my computer and a MFJ-945D tuner to help me get more out of my homemade dual band dipole antenna. Picked them both up used bidding against folks on eBay.

    Need Aluminum Cleaning Product Advice

They used to hire a company to acid wash aluminum semi-trailers where I worked that worked pretty good. They would spray on the acid wash and pressure wash it off with the crud. You'll have to wax it afterwards or it will turn dull. Aluminum Cleaner - Non- Toxic Aluminum Cleaner For...

    k40 cbmax

I use a K40 I bought back in 2005 on my old Suburban using a Uniden PC68XL CB and can't complain about it it one bit. Does the job and unlike the Francis fiberglass antenna I had before it, does not fill your hand with shards of sun dryed fiberglass when you grab it.

Post your mobile Amatuer radio set up.

Yea ahh, that is a FT8000R in my truck that I bought new in 1996 also. I’ve regretted buying it for a couple reasons. The display is difficult for my old eyes to read now mounted between the front seats like I have it, and to me it is a little complicated for mobile use. I wished I had bought...

    Are you a ARRL Member?

I joined years ago when I first got my license, but after a couple years got bored with the magazine. A few pages of good stuff, but like most magazines today 90% are advertising. When the price went up I never renewed. However a few weeks ago, I re-subscribed after finding a coupon code...

ARRL Field Day is This Weekend: Are You Ready?

I've never participated in Field Day before, but I’ve never been a very active Ham either much less chased awards. I’m surprised more people have not responded to this thread though. I’ve been reading up on ARRL Field Day some and it appears to be one of their most popular events. Are any...

Post your citizen band mobile setup

These are what I have in my old Suburban; a Uniden Bearcat PC68XL into a K40 4' Fiberglass antenna mounted on the R/F fender at the edge of the hood and a Yaesu FT8000R 2m/70cm into a Tucker Twin Band magnetic mount antenna stuck on the roof. The console box that contains them is a homemade box...

    Shack Speakers

I found a yard sale set of stereo speakers years ago in a wooden cabinet that does it for me. I use one in the house attached to my FT847 and the other one is still out in my barn hooked up to my old SSB CB. Not brand name, but they sure sounds better than the little radio speaker and cost me...
